MANILA –Following an order from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., rides at the Metro Rail Transit 3 and both lines of the Light Rail Transit are free on Friday, starting noon, the Department of Transportation said.
It follows the suspension of classes in several areas due to the anticipated severe weather, resulting in heavy rainfall and widespread flooding across Metro Manila.
The DOTr encouraged the public, particularly students and workers who may be stranded, to take advantage of the free train services.
As of 1:07 p.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that flooding in some areas has subsided, but several roads remain impassable, especially for light vehicles.
Cleared areas (flood subsided):
- EDSA Shaw Tunnel NB (as of 9 a.m.)
- Ortigas La Salle Gate 6 WB (as of 10:45 a.m.)
- EDSA Roxas NB (as of 12:15 p.m.)
Still flooded:
- Buendia World Trade Center: Waist-deep (37 inches) – not passable to all vehicles
- Andrews Ave. Tramo WB: Gutter-deep (8 inches) – passable
- Roxas Blvd. – Kalaw (NB/SB): Tire-deep (26 inches) – not passable to all
- In front of Ospital ng Maynila: Half tire (13 inches) – not passable to light vehicles
The MMDA also reported that other roads, including Taft Avenue, Pedro Gil, Quirino Avenue, and areas surrounding Roxas Boulevard, are currently experiencing gutter-deep flooding (8 inches) and remain passable to all types of vehicles.
Motorists are advised to avoid severely flooded areas and exercise caution when traveling.
