Clark Freeport yields 1,000 human trafficking victims in PNP raid

CLARK FREEPORT – Police authorities rescued on May 4 evening some 1,000 human trafficking victims, mostly foreigners, allegedly forced to work in “fraudulent cyber-enabled industry” here. 

The Philippine National Police-Anti Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) said that rescued 

were 389 Vietnamese, 307 Chinese, 171 Filipinos, 143 Indonesians, 40 Nepalese, 25 Malaysians, seven Burmese, five Thai, and two Taiwanese nationals. 

The rescue operation was jointly conducted by teams from the PNP-ACG, Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, Bureau of Immigration, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, and PNP Special Action Force.

“This is a case of human trafficking and we are still processing everything,” Police Lt. Michelle Sabino, spokesperson of PNP-ACG, said. “All the victims will remain here while waiting for their embassy to process their papers back to their country.”

The PNP said the victims were forced into working for a fraudulent cyber-enabled industry, victimizing their fellow citizens.

Sabino said the victims were rescued at the Colorful and Leap Group Company located at Clark Sun Valley Hub, Jose Abad Santos Ave in the freeport.

The police operation was conducted on the strength of a May 4 search warrant issued by Judge Hermenegildo Dumlao of the Regional Trial Court Branch 81 in Malolos City, Bulacan for violation of RA 10364 (The Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Person Act of 2012) in relation to Section 6 of RA 10175 (The Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
