The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on Friday reported the arrest of a wanted swindler at a hotel in Pasay City.
The suspect was apprehended during a manhunt operation conducted by CIDG’s Anti-Organized Crime Unit at 4:48 PM on 27 February at Marriott Hotel, Resorts Drive, Pasay City.
Authorities identified the suspect as “Simeon,” 49, married, and a resident of Doña Juana Subdivision, Barangay Rosario, Pasig City.
He was arrested under a warrant for estafa issued by the Regional Trial Court, Branch 160, Pasig City, dated 22 July 2024, with a recommended bail of P90,000.
Several complaints were filed against the suspect before the Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crimes (OSETC). He allegedly misrepresented himself as someone who could facilitate government projects, demanding a 3 to 5 percent commission in advance to secure contracts. He was also accused of using the name of the First Family in his dealings.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III warned that law enforcement authorities have intensified their manhunt operations against fugitives and notorious individuals across the country.
“Let this serve as a lesson to all those who use the name of the First Family for personal gains. Please refrain from doing such acts,” he said.
