A fire hit a residential area in Pasay City on Thursday evening, leaving two persons dead, according to Jamie Santos’ report on “Saksi.”

In an update, Santos reported that two people were killed in the fire. The identities are still being determined by the authorities.

The fire broke out at a community on P. Villanueva Street in Barangay 85 at around 5:59 p.m.

The blaze quickly spread to other houses which were made of light materials and reached the second alarm in a matter of minutes.

Barangay authorities initially attempted to put out the flames using their firefighting equipment, but it was not enough.

More firefighters responded to the scene, but they had difficulty putting it out due to the narrow streets. Residents helped them fetch water for their firetrucks while firefighters connected their hoses together to form a longer line.

“Bukod po sa kakulangan po ng ating water supply, malaking factor po yung sikip ng kalsada. At saka ‘yung dami po ng residente na naglalabas ng gamit nila. Kaya ‘yung pag-operate po ng ating mga bumbero, talagang pahirapan po kanina,” said Fire Superintendent Alma Cassandra Gardose, Pasay City fire chief.

(Aside from the lack of water supply, the narrow streets were a big factor, as well as the residents trying to save their belongings. Our firefighters had a hard time operating earlier.)

The fire was eventually extinguished by 7:58 p.m. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the blaze.

Authorities said 50 families were affected by the blaze, who are staying at a nearby school. — JMA/BAP, GMA Integrated News
