CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Xavier University -School of Business and Management hosted a thought-provoking event aimed at presenting pressing national issues and their impact on regional development. The “Colloquium on Current National Issues and their Implications to Regional Development” was organized in collaboration with the Department of Health’s Drug Abuse Treatment Rehabilitation Center (DATRC) and the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA-R10). This event, a vital component of the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) program, provided a platform for graduate students to engage with various stakeholders from different sectors of the community.
During the colloquium there were seven sessions each concentrating on different aspects of national development. In Session 1, NEDA RD Mylah Faye Aurora B. Cariño, CESO III spoke on “Context of Development in the Philippines.” Session 2 “Promoting Human Capital and Social Development” facilitated by BPA Instructor BUKSU Medina Mis. Or. Jenelyn N. Cenicero, BPA Instructor BUKSU Cabanglasan Bukidnon Miezelle Mae Sayson and Accountant III DHSUD Region IX Cristine Vi D. Balsamo among others. Session 3 had Supervising Administrative Officer DENRRegion 10 Hurel Dave Ensencio discussing “Accelerate Climate Action and Strengthten Disaster Resilience.”
“Practice Good Governance and Bureaucratic Efficiency” was stressed during session 4 that involved resource persons like AO III of Caraga Sate University Allen C. Catipan, Customer Service Associate of PS Bank Lapasan-CDOC Mary Jean Pandao, BPA Program Head of BUKSU Talakag Sundie P. Buna, and NEDA Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora B.Cariňo, CESO III among others. A number of stakeholders discussed on “Ensure Peace and Security and Enhance Administration of Justice” in session 5 including NSTP Instructor of BUKSU Main Emely D. Pepito, LGOO VII of DILG Camiguin Cluster Head Katherine A. Labiano, DOH-DATRC Chief Dr.Klarc Patrick Gontinas.
Thereafter, agriculture came into focus in session six where the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator of LGU Salay- Roy Czar E. Lumacad shed light on “Modernize Agriculture and Agri-Business . Finally Chief Administrative Officer of CAAP Ariel R. Paderan talked about “Expand and Upgrade Infrastructure” during Session 7.
Given an opportunity to disseminate knowledge beyond academic circles, Atty. Michael B. Roa expressed his appreciation for such an opportunity. He highlighted that academic research output should be shared with wider audiences such as government agencies and personal networks.
Maria Kristine Deodor, a participant in the event revealed her satisfaction while expressing her willingness to share the new knowledge gleaned from the event with her compatriots. Furthermore, she pinpointed how these chapters were useful in her work at a government agency.
In a gesture symbolic of continuous learning and knowledge sharing, which was represented by the handover of a Unified Learning Manual during closure of the event. This moment was graced by Mr. Hurel Dave Ensencio who reiterated on the importance continued collaboration and knowledge exchange towards creating meaningful change.
This colloquium demonstrated how education and working together can address complex societal problems. Xavier University-School of Business and Management facilitated an enriching dialogue aimed at fostering sustainable development and positive change at both national/regional levels through bringing together academics, practitioners and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. On return to their various roles/organizations participants shall carry not just insights garnered but also rekindled sense of purpose coupled with devotedness for common good advancement. (JME/OB)
