CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – In a significant move to combat teenage pregnancy and support adolescent mothers, the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro and the Rotary Club of Makati, along with the local government of Cagayan de Oro, launched a program to help teenage mothers and their children. The event, called “Empowering Adolescent Mothers and Their Children in the First 1,000 Days,” took place on March 1, 2025, at the City Hall Quadrangle. It included the signing of an agreement and the turnover of ₱300,000 to support the cause.
This program aims to reduce teenage pregnancy, educate young people, and support young mothers. It will help 50 young mothers and their children by giving them access to education, job training, and employment opportunities. By doing this, the program hopes to break the cycle of poverty and give these families a better future.
Neil Ronard J. Que, President of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, encouraged young people to stay strong. “The youth are the future of CDO. Hard work is important. Life has challenges, but it also has happy moments and chances to grow. Stay strong and enjoy your journey,” he said.
Teenage pregnancy is a serious issue, especially in developing countries like the Philippines. Young mothers often face financial struggles, health risks, and fewer opportunities. Programs like this are needed to support them and give them a better chance at life.
Cagayan de Oro Mayor Rolando A. Uy, in a message read by City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario Raagas, expressed his support. “With the strong partnership between the city government and the Rotary Clubs of Cagayan de Oro and Makati, we are sure this program will continue. It will help young mothers and their children have a better and more secure future. Let’s work together to make sure no young mother is left behind and every child gets the care, education, and protection they deserve,” he said.
This program is an important step in helping teenage mothers in Cagayan de Oro. It gives them the support they need to build a better life for themselves and their children. (JME/POV)
