CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: A protest rally to dramatize opposition to an impending takeover of the embattled Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) is set on Monday, May 20, 2024.
In a letter addressed to Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy on Saturday, dated May 18, 2024, Antonio B. Young, the COWD General Manager, asked the city government to provide policemen to maintain order in the premises of the water district.
A prayer rally spearheaded by COWD is also scheduled Sunday evening, May 19, 2024, in front of the water district’s office in Corrales St., Cagayan de Oro City.
He said that the COWD Board of Directors on Saturday, May 18, 2024 passed Resolution No. 083-S, 2024, opposing and ignoring LWUA’s full takeover of COWD”s operations.
Young said that the COWD’s resolution rebutted all grounds for LWUA to completely takeover the water district on various legal grounds.
The LWUA issued a press release Friday, May 17, 2024 alleging that on orders of President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos, Jr., for LWUA to initiate a full takeover of the COWD effective May, 17, 2024.
The COWD questioned the LWUA resolution on legal grounds under Presidential Decree No. 198, which stipulates grounds for LWUA’s takeover of water district operations.
