CAMP ALAGAR, Cagayan de Oro City- Personnel of Cabanglasan MPS successfully apprehended an individual involved in a cigarette smuggling activities on November 22, 2024, at Purok 15, Brgy. Iba, Cabanglasan, Bukidnon.
The suspect, identified as alias “Dodong,” a 45-year-old Bao-Bao driver and resident of Purok 4, Brgy. Lumbo, Valencia City, Bukidnon, was caught in the act of selling smuggled cigarettes at a local store. Upon checking his parked vehicle in plain view, police discovered reams of smuggled cigarettes that lacked required business permits and Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) seals.
Confiscated items include 50 reams of Commando cigarettes, 46 reams of Fort cigarettes, 15 reams of King cigarettes, and one unit of green TVS King Tricab. The seized cigarettes have an estimated market value of PhP42,000.00.
The suspect will face charges for violating Sec. 10, R.A. No. 10643, or the Graphic Health Warning Law) and PD No. 1464 or the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines. The confiscated items and vehicle will be turned over to the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition.
PBGEN JAYSEN C DE GUZMAN, Regional Director, PRO10, commended the operating unit for a job well done.
“We assure the public of our commitment to combating smuggling and other illegal activities in the region. I commend the operating team and encourage the community to report any unlawful activities to the nearest police station,” he said.
