CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 Cagayan de Oro City Field Office, headed by its Director Emmanuel G. Toledo, released DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (DILEEP) grants amounting to P159,291,284 to 37,477 beneficiaries for calendar year 2022.
With this help, DOLE-10 was able to pay wages to workers in the city who had been moved and were in bad situations.
Beneficiaries’ work included tree planting, sanitation, and disinfection. Individuals who were mostly parents of child laborers, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), tech-voc graduates, fisher folk, and indigenous persons (IPs) had availed of the starter kits and some projects.
As a major source of jobs, agribusiness has its own part of the livelihood program for FY 2022. Some farmers will be running projects to raise livestock and free-range chickens, while others will be working on water refilling projects for their associations.
In consonance with the priority target beneficiaries of DILEEP and the Magna Carta of Women, six women’s groups were also extended livelihood assistance such as garment production, Bigasan ng Bayan, and mini grocery store projects.
Other groups also received general merchandise businesses worth P250,000, while some have their own laundry businesses.
DOLE has always been in favor of helping young Filipinos learn how to be business owners by giving them a package of help.
A number of starter kits were released to their recipients, which are the Young Empowered Skilled Association (YESA) and the Reformed Batang Mindanao in Christ (RBMC)-29.
As employment changes for these individuals due to stigma, they have resorted to entrepreneurship as a profitable and stable source of income for its members.
While the transportation industry faces challenges due to the industry’s demand for digital transformation and new digital requirements, more transport workers have been displaced.
With DOLE’s help, the Habalhabal Tricycle/Tricab Operators and Drivers Association from Brgy. Canitoan has ventured into the motor parts and services business as a way to complement their major source of income. Others were granted their rice trading and dressed chicken projects, while some received bread and pastry businesses.
Also, the DOLE-10 Cagayan de Oro Field Office has worked with the City Government of Cagayan de Oro through its Job Placement Bureau-Public Employment Service Office, the University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines (USTP), the first and second Congressional District offices, and its accredited co-partners to put these programs into action.
DILEEP seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable, and marginalized workers either through emergency employment or the promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises. (DOLE-10/PIA-10)
