CAGAYAN DE ORO (PIA)–In efforts to address the unemployment in the country brought by the pandemic, the Department of Tourism (DOT)-10, in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 10, formally launched the information campaign for the “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso” Philippine Tourism Job Fair 2023, slated, March 30-31, 2023, at Limketkai Atrium.
During the press conference, DOT-10 Regional Director Marie Elaine S. Unchuan expressed that the event is the flagship program of DOT in partnership with DOLE that envisions helping Filipinos secure employment while assisting the tourism sector to revitalize its workforce from the losses brought by the pandemic.
“Importante kaayo ni nga programa sa DOT ug sa DOLE para sa recovery ang atong turismo gikan sa pandemic, we are expecting and we are hoping nga mabibo gyud ta more importantly, daghan kaayo mahatagan ug oportunidad sa trabaho sa turismo,” Unchuan said.
(This is a very important program by the DOT and DOLE for the recovery of our tourism [industry] from the pandemic. We are expecting and we are hoping that we’ll have a very lively [event] and, more importantly, that many will be given job opportunities in the tourism industry)
With the start of this job fair, the tourism agency expects that participating companies will be able to fill a variety of positions, such as administrative and accounting staff, marketing, human resources, front office staff, MICE operators, food and beverage production, kitchen staff, and housekeeping.
DOLE-10 Regional Director Albert E. Gutib said that because of the pandemic, 72 businesses had to close temporarily, affecting 1,041 workers. The tourism industry was one of the hardest hit by the pandemic.
“In support to this noble undertaking, we will be creating a registration link so that the applicants or the job seekers who are interested to be employed in this tourism industry will register in advance through the link that we will be providing,” Gutib said.
He also said the registration link is there to make things easier for the applicants while the event is going on. Those who have already registered will go to the fast lane and only need to show their registration number. Though there is an online registration option, walk-in applicants are also accepted.
As the job fair is set for March 30-31, 2023, both agencies expect more than five hundred applicants to take part in the said job fair, with over fifty booths of employers to be set up at the atrium.
Applicants are reminded to bring their credentials, such as a resume, application letter, and two 2-by-2 ID pictures. They are also asked to sign up through the link that DOLE provides so that they don’t have to wait in long lines.
The registration link can be accessed at https://forms.gle/8qiz1sd9VXfYbao1A. (GKND/PIA-10)
