MisOr guv urges jobseekers to become entrepreneurs

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter Unabia is urging jobseekers to consider going into entrepreneurship instead of aspiring to be employees.

Unabia said at the opening of the “Trabaho, Turismo, Asenso!” Philippine Tourism Job Fair, northern Mindanao leg, that starting a business gives a person a lot of options, including the chance to create new jobs for other people.

The governor also said that the government has programs for people who want to start their own businesses.

“For access to capital, we have the SB Corp with a 2% interest per annum; we have the training “Mentor Me” by DTI, packaging by DTI, and for DOST we have equipment, basta naa tay tanan nga masuporta sa mga gusto magnegosyo (we have everything to support those who want to do business),” he said.

Unabia said the provincial government has also earmarked a total of P100 million in livelihood assistance for his constituents in Misamis Oriental.

Meanwhile, the governor lauded the Department of Tourism and the Department of Labor and Employment for coming up with a partnership to provide employment opportunities to workers displaced by the pandemic.

“This is really the mandate of the government, maghatag og trabaho, maghatag og panginabuhian, maghatag og (to provide jobs, livelihood, to provide) social services to make the lives of the Filipino better,” he added. (APB/PIA-10)
