DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 10 director Erwin Aquino announces the initial number of 9,379 jobs available to jobseekers on May 1 2024 at the Event Hall of SM CDO Downtown during the 122nd Labor Day celebration and the 50th anniversary of the Labor Code.
For Region 10, the activity is coordinated with the local government unit (LGU) Cagayan de Oro Jobs Placement Bureau – Public Employment Service Office (PESO) for the local job vacancies and through the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for the overseas job openings.
Aquino assured that 5,775 available vacancies confirmed by 73 local employers including the government and 3,604 verified overseas jobs from 12 DMW-licensed and accredited recruitment agencies. The figure continues to increase as of press time including the number of participating employers.
Top local job vacancies are production wokers [construction] (943 vacancies), customer service representatives (680), and service crew (180).
Likewise, overseas job top vacancies are continuing care assistants (275), teaching assistants (200), welders (11O), registered nurses (100), cleaners (100), manicurists (100) and waiters/waitress (100).
Moreover, DOLE as the lead agency will also offer a one-stop-shop of services by the DOLE Regional Coordinating Council member-agencies such as the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Regional Conciliation Mediation Board (RCMB), National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) 8th Division and regional arbitration branch, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RWTPB), Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), Technical Education and Skills Development Administration (TESDA), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and DMW.
Along with the one-stop-shop of services is the free documentation for first-time job seekers pursuant to Republic Act No. 11261 or the An Act Waiving Government Fees and Charges in the lssuance of Documents Required in the Application for Employment of First Time Jobseekers through the regional line agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 10 for clearance, Social Security System (SSS) membership application together with Pag-IBIG Fund, Philhealth Corp. membership application, Philippine Statistical Authority (PSA) for birth or marriage certificate, Philippine National Police (PNP) for police clearance, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for tax identification number (TIN) application, Bureau of Immigration (BI) on queries on immigration documents, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for entrepreneurship inquiries, DOLE 10 on free labor advice or livelihood program queries and Career Counselors and Advocates 10 for career advocacy activities and guidance.
Aquino reminds first-time applicants that they may avail of the benefits only once.
They should be Filipino citizens who are actively seeking employment for local or overseas jobs as certified by the barangay of their residence. The law does not cover application fees for taking professional icensure examination, Philippine passport, authentication of documents from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), career service examination and securing driver’s license at the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

For those interested in acquiring or enhancing their technical skills, in partnership with TESDA 10, the following skills demonstration are available at the same venue: solar panel installation (mock-up board), basic electrical installation and basic health checkup, basic robotics and smart system (information drive), barista with complementary coffee and bread and pastry making with complementary pastry products.
The month-long Labor Day celebration this year is anchored on the theme Sa Bagong Pilipinas: Manggagawang Pilipino, Kabalikat at Kasama sa Pag-Asenso.
