MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA)–In order to address the challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable development, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Misamis Oriental Provincial Office says that consumers play a vital role in generating demand for clean energy.
Almer Masillones, the provincial director of DTI-Misamis Oriental, said renewable energy makes us less reliant on fossil fuels, which release greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming, during the kickoff of World Consumer Rights Day 2023, which had the theme, “Empowering Consumers through Clean Energy Transition.”
“With this year’s campaign on the transitioning to clean energy, Consumer International aims to have access to energy systems that are sustainable, inclusive, and just. Sustainable because we need to have a rapid and significant scaling app for renewable energy deployment, enhance energy efficiency, and clean electrification of end users. Inclusive and just because people everywhere should be able to access energy services, meet their basic needs fairly and equitably, and the most vulnerable and disadvantaged are not left behind,” Masillones said.
Transitioning towards clean energy is crucial to achieving the goal of sustainability and environmental protection. Its success can be obtained if consumers actively participate and engage in the demand for producing clean energy, which comes from renewable sources such as wind, solar, and hydropower.
Masillones stressed how important it is to give consumers the tools and information they need to make informed decisions and take an active role in the transition to clean energy. This means giving consumers access to accurate and clear information and making sure they have the tools and resources they need to make informed decisions.
As the DTI-Misamis Oriental Provincial Office keeps educating and empowering consumers to make good decisions, they hope that one day, the whole region will switch to using clean energy to protect the environment for future generations.(JAKA/PIA-10/Misamis Oriental)
