Disconnection of CDO water supply illegal

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: City Councilor James Judith, Chairman of the fact-finding team, said that it is “illegal” to disconnect water supply to Cagayan de Oro City water consumers.

Judith made the remarks after a top official of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) testified that the contract between the COWD and the water supplier did not stipulate disconnection of water supply.

Geri Caño, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the COWD, said that the joint venture agreement between the COWD and the Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Inc. (COBI) never mentioned about disconnecting water supply the moment COWD failed to pay the COBI.

COBI threatens to disconnect water supply to more than 85,000 water consumers after COWD failed to pay its P 426 million water bill to COBI.

Lawyer Ralph Rodrigo, who represented the Metro Pacific Water Investment (Metropac) and COBI, said on Friday, March 15, 2024 that the company will just exercise what it thinks necessary.

COBI sent four notice of disconnections to COWD with a final disconnection notice on March 31, 2024.
