CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA)–In line with the celebration of the Month of the Ocean, the Department of Environmental Resources (DENR)-10, alongside the Cagayan de Oro City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), national government agencies, academe, and various volunteer stakeholders, held a clean-up drive along the Bitan-ag Creek and coastal area of Barangay Lapasan, here.
Spearheaded by the KUSGAN VOLUNTEERS Inc., a non-profit organization registered by the Security Exchange Commission, as part of their advocacy for nature conservancy, participants were asked to fill out the Volunteer Ocean Trash Data Form for proper documentation and a record of collected garbage prior to the activity.
Cesar Lariosa, a DENR-10 employee, joins other volunteers and other stakeholders during the clean-up activity in celebration of the Month of the Ocean along Bitan-ag Creek and the coastal area of Barangay Lapasan in Cagayan de Oro City. Lariosa amassed used tires, damaged electric fans, and other forms of plastic. (DENR-10)
Amassed were used tires, damaged appliances, and other forms of plastic, which disrupt marine life and cause environmental damage.
Armen Cuenca, CLENRO Department Manager, on behalf of Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy, expressed his gratitude to the DENR-10 and other partner stakeholders for collaborating with KUSGAN VOLUNTEERS Inc. in the coastal clean-up.
Cuenca disclosed that the trash trap facility donated by DENR-10 to Barangay Lapasan will be replicated by the Local Government of Cagayan de Oro City in other coastal barangays while also constantly conducting massive clean-up activities to improve the water quality in the area. (DENR-10/PIA-10)
