CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) denied reports that the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has taken over the city’s water district here.

Gerry Caño, a member of the COWD ‘s Board of Directors, said the COWD has not seen any document of the alleged LWUA takeover.

“The news story that LWUA has taken over COWD is fake,” Caño said.

Caño, however, said that the COWD is obliged to turnover the water district to LWUA once a formal communication is received.

“Once the LWUA takes over, the COWD will also file a case against the water utilities,”Caño said.

On May17, 2024, the LWUA’s Board of Directors passed Resolution No. 34 for a full takeover of the COWD effective on the same date.

On May 18, 2024, the COWD also passed a resolution contesting the LWUA resolution on various legal grounds.

On Monday, 20, 2024, law enforcers were dispatched to COWD office in Corrales St. in anticipation of a rally to prevent LWUA from taking over the COWD.

The impending rally and the LWUA takeover have not taken place. -0-
