Councilor Des Dahino inspiring women this month and beyond

EVEN before the yearly Women’s Month celebration this March, Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Des Dahino has already been inspiring women here through legislation and other efforts as chair of the committee on women and family relations.

This, as the city government opened the celebration of National Women’s Month on Friday, March 6.

The celebration began with a Holy Mass held at the St. Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral and officiated by Fr. Anthony Bactong, followed by a motorcade led by Committee on Women and Family Relations Chairperson City Councilor Des Dahino, City Councilor Gigi Go, and the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) headed by Neil Aldrin G. Omega, along with various city hall offices, barangays, national government agencies, private organizations, and other groups.

Aside from the Holy Mass, the opening of Women’s Month was also marked by the “Stride for Equality” activity as a tribute to the women’s sector.

The kick-off activity was spearheaded by the City Gender and Development Office under the theme: “WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society.”

Other activities during the month-long fest are Bongga Ka Nay, zumba contest, blood drive, outreach activity at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail Female Dormitory and Home for the Girls, gender sensitivity training for students of the City College of Cagayan de Oro, TVET skills caravan, jobs fair, stress debriefing for single mothers, pampering day for female city government employees, medical mission, Diskwento caravan and volleyball championship.

“Together, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women in building stronger communities. Stand up like a Babaylan!” Dahino said.
