CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: The Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water, Inc. (COBI) cut water supply for the Cagayan de Oro City Water District (COWD) Tuesday morning but barely 12 hours, the water came flowing again.

City Mayor Rolando Uy made the announcement Tuesday night after a local court granted the temporary restraining order in a motion filed by former City Councilor Eric Salcedo and radio broadcaster Ronnie Waniwan.

Salcedo and Waniwan filed the motion TRO on May 9, 2024 after COBI sent a disconnection notice to the COWD on May 14, 2024.

COBI closed the main valve of the water pipe that distributes water to the entire city of Cagayan de Oro at 10:00 Tuesday morning after the COWD reportedly failed to pay its outstanding water bill with COBI.

Presiding Judge Ana Candida Casiño, Regional Trial Court (RTC), Branch 17, granted the motion for TRO on May 14, 2024 a few hours after COBI cut the water supply.
In a three page decision the TRO, effective for 72 days

“restrained COBI, their agents, representatives and all persons acting on their behalf” to cut the water supply in Cagayan de Oro City.

Uy said that the water distribution and water supply is expected to normalize Wednesday just as water tankers of the city’s risk reduction management office started to distribute water to affected areas in the city. -0-
