Cagayan de Oro- The Department of Tourism Region 10 on Thursday afternoon reported that there are a total of 39 dive sites of Northern Mindanao will open its doors this summer after a closure of some sites during the pandemic.
DoT 10 Marketing head John Baclig said that these dive sites are mostly from Misamis Oriental and Camiguin.
This month,the Provincial tourism office of the island province of Camiguin has done geotagging the 14 dive sites that are all found in the capital town of Mambajao, and they’ve seen rich corals underwater that make these dive sites more attractive.
Mambajao dive instructor Romeo Grado said that they’ve seen some rare and unique species and formations of corals from Tangub bay,Tupsan,Magting, Baylao and the famous whilte island.
A tight enforcement for violators of Solid Waste Management laws will ordered by Governor XJ Romualdo to preserve the prestine of marine resources in the entire island.
Baclig also reported that there are 7 accredited dive operators in the region with 2 dive resorts from Misamis Oriental province and these are Duka Bay Resort in the town of Medina and Mantangale Alibuag Dive resort in the town of Balingoan where a wharf going to Camiguin is located.
This year, the Regional office will explore some dive sites potentials in Misamis Occidental,Sultan Naga Dimaporo town of Lanao del Norte and some dive spots in Iligan and Gingoog City.
In 2020, they started to explore and study the beauty of underwater of Pantalan(wharf) in Gigoog city which they found out that it is very potential for Macro Photography but waiting for the approval of a city ordinance before they will accredit it and open for underwater photographers and divers.
