Cagayan de Oro City: Three communist rebels, two top leaders, were killed in a separate armed encounter with the government forces in Agusan del Norte and Misamis Oriental, the military said Thursday.
Lt. Col. Francisco P. Garello, the spokesman for the army’s 4ID in Camp Evangelista in Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, said the separate armed encounters took place in Jabonga, Agusan del Norte on May 20, 2024 and in Gingoog City, Misamis Oiental on May 21, 2024.
Garello identified the two ranking communist rebels killed as Zaldy Galamiton alias “Shaggy/Poldo”, the Secretary of Sub-Regional Committee 1 and Jhonjhon Ayuma Ramos alias “Erbing”, the Commanding Officer of SRSDG Eagles, both under the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).
The third fatality, killed in Bal-ason, an upland village in Gingoog City. Misamis Oriental, was
Berto Dayong alias Sadam/Jenel, a combatant of the communist North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC).
Garello said that no casualties were reported on the military side.
He said that the military also captured two M16 rifles, bandoliers, magazines, ammunition, one 9mm pistol, one caliber .45 pistol and personal belongings in the encounter site.
