Parañaque Representative Edwin Olivarez on Monday announced that he will be running for Parañaque mayor in next year’s elections.
In a statement, Olivarez said he will file his cetificate of candidacy for mayor on October 7 under the ruling Lakas-CMD party.
Olivarez, who chairs the House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization, previously served as Parañaque City mayor from 2013 to 2022, as well as chairman of the Metro Manila Council, the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
Olivarez’s younger brother and incumbent Parañaque city Mayor Eric Olivarez, on the other hand, will be running as Parañaque 1st district representative in an aim to succeed his brother.
Eric was also a former House member from 2013 to 2022.
The Olivarez’s patriarch is Dr. Pablo Olivarez, who served as Parañaque city mayor from 1982 to 1985. —Llanesca T. Panti/KBK, GMA Integrated News
