Do you wonder why Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig does not flood?
The secret is under popular Burgos Circle, where a massive detention tank is located.
According to Jonathan Andal’s report, the detention tank stores floodwater in BGC.
The detention tank is 12 meters deep, comparable to the height of a four-story building, and can store up to 22,000 cubic meters of floodwater — or equivalent to eight Olympic-sized swimming pools.
When the rain stops, water stored in the tank is released into a creak, which will then flow into the Pasig River.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has contemplated replicating BGC’s underground water impounding structure to address perennial flooding in Metro Manila.
But finding a suitable location remains a challenge.
