P13M worth of counterfeit products seized in NBI raid

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) seized P13 million worth of counterfeit products in two separate operations in Metro Manila.

In a statement on Tuesday, The NBI said it seized bath and beauty products worth P12.28 million in Manila, Quezon City, and Prañaque City on July 5.  

Meanwhile, P1 million worth of counterfeit technologies were confiscated in Manila on the same day. 

The NBI said it served 12 search warrants after receiving a complaint that some individuals and establishments engaged in the marketing, distribution, and sale of counterfeit technologies.

The suspects will face charges for violating RA 8293 the Intellectual Property Code, particularly under Section 155 (Trademark Infringement) and Section 168 (Unfair Competition).

Davao Raid

NBI also arrested three individuals for selling counterfeit essential oils in Davao City on July 3.

In a separate statement, NBI said a marketing company illegally distributes and sells products under the complainant’s registered mark.

A laboratory analysis showed that the counterfeit essential oils failed in odor, specific gravity, and assay.

The three individuals were arrested after they delivered 300 pieces of 10-millimeter bottles of counterfeit essential oils to the poseur buyer.

They were presented for inquest proceedings before the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office for violating RA 8293. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
