DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 21 March)—Successive water interruptions affected most of the city today due to separate water leakages and processes at the water treatment plant of the Davao City Water District (DCWD).
Reported water interruptions were observed in two main water DCWD systems, namely in Tugbok water supply systems (WSS) and Dumoy WSS.
In a released statement on their Facebook page Thursday afternoon, the water interruptions in Tugbok WSS, which covers most areas in Tugbok Proper, Catalunan Pequeño, Mintal, Matina Pangi, Catalunan Grande, Bago Oshiro, Bago Aplaya, and Bago Gallera, were caused by a “water treatment plant process start-up” thus operating at a “reduced capacity.”
Meanwhile, a water leakage caused water interruption in Matina Aplaya due to a leaked water line along Prawn Street in Seaside Subdivision. By evening, the water interruption still continues.
In most parts of Barangay Ilang and in Barangay Panacan along the Malagamot Road, the water interruption was caused by a leak near Holcim. Repairs are underway.
DCWD spokesperson JC Duhaylungsod said that undergoing operational adjustments are being done to expand their reach of bulk water supply, including some “water treatment plant adjustments” which could cause “little to no water pressure,” if so.
Possible water interruptions can be attributed to transitioning to the recent Tamugan Watershed development, a collaboration with private firm Apo Agua for DCWD to get water from the latter’s watershed. (Ian Carl Espinosa / MindaNews)
