Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy announced the other day, that the City College for poor but deserving students in the city, will be opened in September, this year.
The mayor revealed to the media that the said college will be constructed in the 46-hectare land located in barangay Dansolihon, which is a donated property to the City Government.
“Makasiguro ko labing dugay sunod tuig pero paningkamutan nako sa second semester karong tuiga. Silbi karong school year second semester, makasugod ta sa city college, bisa’g walay building dinhi,” Mayor Klarex Uy said.
“Nagpasalamat ko kay nagsaad pud ang DepEd nga aduna sila’y building nga pahulaman, aron nga makasugod ta sa atong city college,” he added.
Mayor Uy said he became emotional as he heard that the donation was from a group of “lumads” in the said barangay.
“Mapasayon unya ang pagtukod sa dakbayan sa maong city college kay aduna namay donated nga property ug dili na mag problema ang syudad kung asa pangitaon ang ibayad sa yuta,” the mayor said in vernacular.
The mayor said the first city college will be constructed in the hinterland barangay so that it will not also affect the existing state colleges and universities in the city.
Last week, the mayor learned that City Hall was able to secure a 10-hectare land donation from a group of lumads in the hinterland barangay.
As this city college plan developed, another 18 lumads also informed the city mayor that they would also donate 2-hectare from each of them that would also make it a total of 46 hectares.
Aside from helping the poor residents of the hinterland barangays, Mayor Uy also envisioned developing the agricultural sector in the far-flung barangays.
In October of 2022 during the groundbreaking of the 5-story CDRRMD building, Uy announced that the city college will be constructed in zone 8, barangay Carmen but it did not materialize. – with a report from CIO
