Cagayan de Oro, DHSUD hook up housing programs

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The local government will streamline its housing projects with the national government’s “Pambansang Pabahay Para Sa Pilipino” (4PH).

In a statement on Tuesday, lawyer Sam Rollo, chief of the City Housing Urban Development Department, said negotiations are underway between the city government and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) for the 4PH initiative.

“They want to implement the program in the city in keeping with the government’s target of one million housing units a year or six million in six years,” he said.

Under the program, Rollo said local governments need only to provide a list of identified beneficiaries while DHSUD will handle land acquisition, development, and building the housing units.

In his second State of the Nation Address in July, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced the issuance of Executive Order No. 34 creating the 4PH program that seeks to cover the 6.5 million housing backlog for poor families.

Rollo did not state how many beneficiaries in the city will be listed for the 4PH program, but said the housing development will be a medium-rise structure.

“The city has one of several properties in Sitio Pamalihi, Barangay Pagatpat that already underwent land development and which we’re looking at to build single detached housing units,” he said.

As of Tuesday, about 30,000 out of 50,102 illegal settler families in the city applied for a socialized housing program even before the 4PH was announced.

Under the 4PH program, the DHSUD said beneficiaries will pay PHP3,500 to PHP4,000 monthly for their units. (PNA)
