A Chinese national was arrested in Parañaque City after he was found to have a firearm and suspected illegal drugs when he passed through an X-ray scanner of a hotel.
The suspect, identified as Juan Yang, was detained at the Parañaque City police headquarters, according to a report of Bam Alegre on Saksi on Monday.
He was seen crying as he was being led into the detention cell. The suspect declined to issue a statement.
The X-ray scanner of a hotel in Parañaque City showed the contents of his bags which included a caliber .45 hand gun with seven live ammunition and a transparent resealable plastic bag that contains 1.77 grams of suspected shabu with a street value of more than P12,000.
Authorities found another transparent plastic sachet that contains two pink tablets suspected to be ecstasy pills with street value of P3,000.
The crime lab is processing the items seized from the foreigner.
“Definitely, foreign nationals are not allowed to possess and to bring firearms and other contraband. So, alam naman nila siguro ‘yun dahil tayo rin ‘pag pumunta sa ibang countries we are not allowed,” said Parañaque City Police Chief Colonel Reycon Garduque.
(So they should have known that because we are also not allowed to do so when we go to other countries.)
“Election period na tayo. Nandyan na ‘yung election, ang ating gun ban. So, only those authorized as security personnel na merong pahintulot mula sa ating Comelec ang allowed na magdala ng firearms,” he added.
(We are in the election period. There’s the election, the gun ban. So only those authorized as security personnel are allowed by Comelec [Commission on Elections] to bring firearms.)
