P700,000 fake cigarettes seized in Danao City

MORE than half a million pesos worth of fake cigarettes were confiscated by the operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas (CIDG 7) in Barangay Looc, Danao City, northern Cebu at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

The owner of counterfeit goods, Fernando Gonzales Beduya, 59, was also arrested during the raid,

Together with the representatives from BIR revenue 13 and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Company, the CIDG 7 carried out the buy-bust, which led to the confiscation of cigarettes packaged in cartons with brands including Marlboro, Mighty Green, and King Red, totaling P700,000.

The suspect will be charged with violating Republic Act (RA) 10643 or the Graphic Health Warning Act, and RA 8293, the Intellectual Property Code. (AYB, TPT)
