The fatality was identified as Robert Castañares, while his wife was identified as Lucet.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Randy Caballes, chief of the Talisay City Police Station, the couple was on the way home in Barangay Lagtang in the same city when the incident happened round 6:30 p.m.
He said they received the report of the shooting half an hour later.
Caballes said they have yet to identify the perpetrators.
Based on their initial investigation, Robert and Lucet were on board their motorcycle when the attack took place.
Robert suffered several gunshot wounds and died on the spot, while his wife was rushed to the hospital where she is under observation.
“Atong gitan-aw karon ang personal grudge o ‘family affairs’ so atong susihon kinsa kaha ning naghimo sa plano nga patyon ning biktima,” Caballes said.
(For now we are looking at personal grudge or a “family affair” as a possible motive for the ambush so we’re going to check who might have hatched the plan to kill the victim.)
However, the police chief said they wouldn’t discount other angles. (BBT, PJB)
