THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday assured the public that security systems are in place for the Asean Summit in Manila.
“The PNP is prepared to ensure the security of the activity, including the VIPs, attendees, and the venue where it will be held — we will secure all of that. We also have sufficient resources, including personnel, logistics, and the necessary funds,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.
“PNP will be working alongside various agencies, especially the local government units,” he said.
Nartatez said the PNP will fully utilize its resources and will declare the necessary alert status once it finalizes its assessment of the security situation.
Likewise, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has strengthened security arrangements around hotels, billeting facilities, and other establishments accommodating foreign delegates for the summit.
BGen. Christopher Abrahano, NCRPO officer-in-charge, directed police district commanders to intensify coordination with hotel management, property administrators, and private security agencies to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place and that any potential security concern is immediately reported and acted upon.
Abrahano emphasized that security coverage must extend beyond summit venues and designated motorcade routes, since foreign delegates and visitors will also stay, dine, and conduct other activities in various establishments across the metropolis.
Abrahano added that clear communication and reporting channels with hotel security officers, police visibility in strategic locations, and local police stations’ readiness to promptly respond to any reported incident or suspicious activity are paramount to maintaining peace and order during the summit.
The 49th Asean Summit and Related Summits will be held in Manila from Nov. 16 to 18, 2026.
