MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines Manila ranked No. 447 among 2,250 universities in the 2026-2027 Best Global Universities rankings of U.S. News & World Report, making it the only Philippine university in the global Top 500.
UP Manila rose 32 places from its previous ranking of No. 479.
The university ranked first in normalized citation impact and in the percentage of highly cited papers among the top 1 percent most cited, based on the U.S. News rankings.
It was also ranked No. 112 among universities in Asia and No. 972 in global research reputation.
UP Manila posted a global score of 50.8 in the 2026-2027 rankings, compared with 52.5 in the 2024-2025 tally.
U.S. News based its rankings on 13 indicators covering academic research performance and global and regional reputation. These include publications, citations, books, international collaborations, conferences, regional research reputation and global research reputation.
U.S. News said the indicators were selected to allow comparisons of higher education institutions across countries.
While the rankings focus on research and reputation, U.S. News noted that prospective students can assume that a ranked university has many highly respected faculty members.
For its regional rankings covering Africa, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Europe and Latin America, U.S. News said the methodology was based on each institution’s position in the overall Best Global Universities rankings.
