House Majority Leader Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos can’t helped but be impressed by the prosecution team in Vice President Sara Duterte’s Senate impeachment trial.
Two solon-prosecutors in particular were given special mention by the presidential son.
Rep. Marcos was asked on Monday, July 27 about the extent of his involvement with the prosecution panel as majority leader. Apparently, he doesn’t have any.
“Me? Wala (Nothing)…Again, I trust that they’re all brilliant. I said before, they’re all brilliant in their own way and let them do what they need to do,” he told House reporters.
He then hailed Akbayan Party-list Rep. Chel Diokno and lead prosecutor Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro for their exploits so far in the high-stakes trial.
(You’ve Chel, Cong Chel Diokno, he has been great. Cong Jinky is doing great.)
“My extent of my involvement in that is the same as all of you. Pinapanood ko sa YouTube. That’s about it,” a candid Rep. Marcos added.
As for reports that the panel has been asking for more “support” from the House leadership, Rep. Marcos said it was the first time he has heard of such.
“I’ll have to verify with them and see if that’s really the case. If that is true, then it’s an easy fix. They will be supported more,” he said.
“This is, again, this is news to me. I don’t know what the concerns are so I will have to have a dialogue with them. But it’s the first time I’ve heard it,” added the majority leader.
Day 10 of the Senate impeachment trial will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, July 29.
Vice President Duterte’s conviction via impeachment trial is being sought over her offices’ alleged misuse of P612.5 million worth of confidential funds; untruthful declarations in the filing of her statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth; unexplained wealth; and death threats to President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez.
