BBM Directs Repair of Marahan Road in Davao City — Dizon

DAVAO CITY (MindaNews / 23 July 2026) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the repair of the road at Purok 39, Sitio Marahan, Marilog Proper, which suffered a road slip on the evening of Friday last week.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon revealed this during an inspection of the affected area on Thursday morning, as reported in an interview posted on Radyo Pilipinas’ Facebook page. Dizon stated that the agency is pursuing both temporary and long-term solutions, including slope protection for both sides of the road.

“At the same time, we will work on a more permanent solution, though that will take longer,” Dizon said. A permanent fix would require proper design and soil investigation, but the immediate focus is restoring road access as soon as possible.

The DPWH emphasized that the repairs aim to minimize disruptions in transporting passengers and goods along this vital Davao-Bukidnon route. Work is expected to begin as early as Monday.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) warned against using the Davao-Bukidnon Road-Datu Ladayon-Katipunan-Campo Uno alternate route due to muddy conditions during heavy rains. Heavy vehicles were advised to take safer detours like Maramag–Carmen–Kabacan–Digos–Davao.

A road slip, a type of landslide affecting roadways, was caused by heavy rains from a recent thunderstorm. By Thursday morning, the damage had worsened, with the last house near the cliff collapsing and the road slip expanding since the July 17 incident.

Traffic was briefly halted for soil inspections and Dizon’s visit. (Yas D. Ocampo, with reports from Gregorio C. Bueno, MindaNews)
