The Philippine Press Institute (PPI), the national association of newspapers and online publications, celebrates its 62nd year by honoring its legacy of trailblazing initiatives that benefit its members and the communities they serve. As digital innovations reshape news production and consumption, PPI addresses these changes with dual goals: maintaining credibility amid disinformation and achieving sustainability through diversified revenue streams. From June 4 to 6 at Lucky Chinatown Hotel in Manila, PPI will host its General Membership Meeting, Community Press Awards, National Press Forum, and PPI Media-Citizen Councils Roundtable Discussion. The Community Press Awards, supported by Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), will recognize excellence in journalism across categories such as Best News Website, Best Photojournalism, and Best Environmental Reporting. Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso will grace the event, followed by a fellowship dinner hosted by Megaworld Corporation. Finalists include publications like Baguio Chronicle, Mindanews, and SunStar Daily. The National Press Forum will explore media landscape challenges and opportunities, featuring a keynote by NAC’s Jose Bayani D. Baylon and a workshop on AI use led by media advisor Jaemark Tordecilla. The Media-Citizen Councils Roundtable will gather leaders from 14 councils to discuss community issues. PPI’s anniversary is supported by organizations like SM Prime, Ayala Corporation, and Cebu Pacific, with a special supplement published in Manila Standard backed by partners including the Presidential Communications Office and Toyota Motor Philippines.
