The Manila City government will implement a four-day workweek in response to rising fuel prices amid escalating conflict in the Middle East.

On Monday, Mayor Francisco “Isko” Domagoso signed Executive Order (EO) No. 8, series of 2026, instituting a condensed workweek for city government employees.

Under the EO, city government offices will operate from Monday to Thursday, with hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Fridays and weekends will be non-working days, according to the order.

“Gayunman, magpapatuloy ang operasyon ng mga tanggapan na nagbibigay ng essential services upang matiyak ang tuloy-tuloy na paghahatid ng serbisyo sa mga Manileño,” the city government said.

(Operations for offices providing essential services will continue to ensure uninterrupted services for Manileños.)

Fuel prices have begun to spike as tensions in the Middle East escalate, following joint military operations launched by the United States and Israel against Iran.

Last week, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. announced that starting March 9, 2026, a four-day workweek will temporarily be implemented in offices under the executive branch.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
