A decaying fetus, believed to have been deliberately aborted, was discovered in a hotel in Cubao, Quezon City.

According to Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras” Monday, hotel staff found the fetus inside a styrofoam box shortly after 2 a.m. on Sunday, following complaints of a foul odor in the area.

The box had been hidden in the hotel bathroom ceiling and was not opened until the supervisor arrived.

The supervisor declined to be interviewed, citing an ongoing investigation, but confirmed that barangay officials were notified upon discovery of the fetus.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) responded after the barangay reported the incident. QCPD said the fetus was approximately six months old and is believed to have been intentionally aborted. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspect.

The National Authority for Child Care (NACC) is investigating the case under laws against abortion and child abandonment, noting that poverty often drives such incidents.

As of December 2025, NACC had rescued 652 abandoned children who are now under its care.

The agency emphasized that pregnant women facing severe hardship can approach NACC for assistance instead of resorting to abortion or abandonment.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/MCG, GMA Integrated News
