MindaNews / 2 January – One person died and another one remains missing after their kayak sank upon encountering strong waves off Barangay Baybay in Burgos, Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, the Philippine Coast Guard said in a report posted on its Facebook page Thursday evening.
The PCG said they undertook a search and rescue operation, leading to the recovery of one cadaver and one injured survivor, who was brought to the nearest hospital for treatment.
It added the missing person is a 19-year-old resident of Malolos, Bulacan.
The PCG advised all vessels and watercraft transiting the said vicinity waters and adjacent areas “to maintain heightened vigilance and be on the lookout, and immediately report to the nearest Coast Guard unit for an appropriate response.” (MindaNews)
