Northern Mindanao Fish Supply Remains Steady Ahead of Holidays

Northern Mindanao is expected to maintain an abundant fish supply beyond the holiday season, with up to 50 tons potentially available daily by 2026, according to Irene Floro, chairperson of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The city is a top regional market for marine products, with most tuna and marine products coming from Zamboanga and General Santos City. Floro stated that they are ready to supply around 40 to 50 tons of fish per day this holiday season, and the Department of Trade and Industry monitors prices to prevent sharp increases. However, high transportation and logistics costs challenge local traders, creating price competition from suppliers in Cebu and Manila despite Mindanao’s growing supply.
