CDO Scouts Get New ₱24-Million Multi-Purpose Hub to Inspire Leadership andCommunity Service

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A new milestone for the scouting movement in Northern Mindanao
was marked with the inauguration of a ₱24-million multi-purpose building in Sitio Mapawa,
Barangay Gusa. The facility will serve as the joint administration center of the Boy Scouts of the
Philippines (BSP) and the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Misamis Oriental Council.
The project covers 320 square meters and was constructed by the Department of Public Works
and Highways (DPWH) Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Engineering Office. It was made possible
through the efforts of Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez of Cagayan de Oro’s 2nd District.

the ribbon-cutting of the 24-million multi-purpose Scout building in Sitio Mapawa, Barangay
Gusa.

In his inspirational message, Congressman Rodriguez stressed that the building is more than
just a structure—it is a symbol of unity, service, and hope for young people.
“This project now stands as a home for the Boy Scouts of the Philippines—a place where values
of leadership, discipline, and love of country will continue to flourish. May this serve as a
reminder that when government, community, and youth work hand in hand, we can build a
brighter future for our nation,” Rodriguez said.

Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez delivers an inspirational message at the

The congressman also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting projects that benefit the youth.
He emphasized that investing in young people is investing in the future of the country.
Representatives of the scouting councils also expressed their gratitude during the program. Ms.
Lyra Vaguchay of the GSP Misamis Oriental Council said the new building will inspire both boy
and girl scouts to continue their mission of service.
“I hope that through this building, the strong support for the Scouting Movement is truly shown.
We, the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, are deeply grateful to Cong. Rufus B. Rodriguez, because
through him, we now have a building that we can make use of,” Vaguchay said.

The new facility will serve as a venue for training, planning sessions, and youth development
activities. With its modern spaces, scouts will have a safe and conducive place to strengthen
their programs in leadership, environmental care, and community service.
Community members and local leaders also welcomed the project, saying it will boost youth
involvement and provide opportunities for personal growth.
With the inauguration, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts now look forward to many years of
meaningful activities inside a building they can proudly call their own. (JME/MDN)

: DPWH 2nd District Engineer Jan Paolo Lisondra turned over the project to
Congressman Rufus B. Rodriguez, who handed it to the CDO City LGU through Mayor
Rolando “Klarex” Uy, represented by City Administrator Atty. Roy Hilario Raagas, along with
Cugman Punong Barangay Ma. Luisa Aldeguer and local scout councils. Witnessed by
DENR-10 RED Henry Adornado and city officials.
