The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) on Monday said authorities have confiscated the illegal green plates of two vehicles in two separate operations in Pasig City.
In a press conference, HPG acting director Police Colonel Hansel Marantan said his personnel searched for the two vehicles after they went viral for having questionable green plates.
“Noong October 10 at 11, our teams conducted fake validation operations involving two diesel-powered. Both were found using green license plates,” Marantan said.
Green plates are assigned only to hybrid (HEV) and electric vehicles (EV). Under the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), vehicles with green plates are exempted from the number coding scheme until 2030.
“Upon verification, the owners presented [official receipt and certificate of registration] and sales documents and acknowledged the discrepancy,” he added.
According to Marantan, the vehicle owners cooperated and surrendered the illegal green plates to the HPG operatives.
“Pinapakita nila yung mga documents. It appears to me that it came from the [Land Transportation Office ] talaga. So in fairness with the driver, we can help him to correct the misrepresentation of the green plate,” he said.

GMA News Online has sought comment from the LTO about the matter but the agency has yet to respond as of posting time.
The HPG chief said the probe into the matter is still ongoing.
Marantan said the HPG is coordinating with the LTO as well as the automobile manufacturing company about the issue.
He said the HPG has received intelligence information that illegal green plates are being sold for around P15,000 to P30,000 each.
According to him, the HPG is haunting down more than 100 reported vehicles with questionable green plates. — BM, GMA Integrated News
