Fire Officer 2 Mark Louie Yap of Mandaue City’s Bureau of Fire Protection told SunStar Cebu on Monday, March 27, 2023, that they responded to at least five fire incidents this year, with an estimated damage to properties of P192,000, as compared to last year’s four fire incidents that resulted in damage of around P185,000.
The recent fires were reported in barangays Subangdaku, Jagobiao, Tabok, Centro (North Reclamation Area), and Banilad.
Ten families who were victims of the afternoon fire in Barangay Banilad last March 21 had already received cash assistance.
Camilo Basaca Jr., the officer-in-charge of the Mandaue City Social Services Office (CSWS), told reporters that house owners whose homes were totally burned were given P10,000 each, while the seven renters and one sharer received P5,000 each.
During the kick-off ceremony for the Fire Prevention Month last March 1, BFP-Mandaue Fire Marshall, Chief Inspector Arnel Abella, reminded the public to unplug their home appliances and gadgets when they leaves their homes, since these are the most common causes of fire. (HIC)
