MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) laid out measures to manage traffic and public safety during the mass protest against corruption and plunder on Sunday.
The agency confirmed to The Manila Times that no rerouting schemes would be implemented, but traffic personnel would be deployed to guide motorists and manage congestion around rally sites in Quezon City, Ortigas, and Luneta.
Along EDSA, a zipper lane may be opened on White Plains Avenue to ease congestion, while Temple Drive will serve as an additional parking area.
MMDA units will also be positioned at the EDSA People Power Monument and EDSA Shrine to direct vehicles and prevent marchers from spilling over into major lanes.
Near Luneta, the agency will coordinate with the Manila City government to manage traffic flow along Roxas Boulevard and surrounding streets.
The MMDA said it would work closely with the Philippine National Police for crowd control and order, while advising participants to use the Metro and Light Rail Transits
MMDA Chairman Don Artes met with protest organizers, along with local officials and participating groups, to finalize preparations for the demonstrations.
Motorists not joining the rallies were urged to avoid the affected areas to lessen traffic buildup.
