Rains Bring Wet Weather to Southern Philippines

MANILA, Philippines — Rainy weather is expected in parts of the Bicol Region, the Visayas, and Mindanao on August 31, 2025, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Rainfall between 50 and 100 millimeters may occur in several provinces, including Catanduanes, Albay, Masbate, and Sorsogon in Bicol; Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Northern Samar, and Eastern Samar in the Visayas; and the Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte in Mindanao. The state weather bureau warned of localized flooding and landslides in susceptible areas due to the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure area (LPA) located 520 kilometers east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. PAGASA noted that the LPA is unlikely to become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. In Quezon City, floods occurred in several areas, including Commonwealth Avenue and Quezon Avenue, with up to 37 inches of floodwater reported, causing traffic congestion. Other areas, such as EDSA, Aurora Boulevard, and Katipunan Avenue, were also affected by flooding, with up to 19 inches of floodwater reported.
