COTABATO CITY (MindaNews / 26 August) — Two persons were killed and six others wounded when a passenger van was ambushed in Barangay Bagan, Guindulungan town, Maguindanao del Sur, at around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lieutenant Colonel Jopy Ventura, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamong Autonomous Region (PRO BAR), stated the van was carrying 18 passengers and traveling along the national highway toward Datu Saudi Ampatuan when unidentified assailants opened fire, killing one passenger. Despite the attack, the driver managed to reach the Datu Saudi Ampatuan police station. Police transported seven wounded victims to Maguindanao Provincial Hospital, where one later died, raising the death toll to two. Investigators recovered empty shell casings at the scene, and the van is now in police custody.
