First H5N9 bird flu case detected in CamSur

The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) said it has detected the first H5N9 bird flu virus case in Camarines Sur.

In a “24 Oras” report on Thursday, BAI said the H5N9 bird flu virus was detected from duck samples in the town of Camaligan.

Culling and disposal were conducted among possibly affected ducks on May 6.

According to the BAI, the virus is deadly to birds, but global health agencies said it is not dangerous to humans.

Despite this, the Department of Health warned residents of possible exposure to the virus.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
