NCRPO: No credible info on alleged threat in Metro Manila

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said it has not monitored credible information on any form of threat in Metro Manila, debunking a social media post.

“Our stringent security measures are already established in coordination with other security agencies and contingency plans are also in place for any unusual occurrence in the security situation,” the NCRPO said.

“We maintain however that, as of now, there is no credible information monitored by our intelligence units that would suggest any form of threat in Metro Manila,” it added.

The NCRPO made the statement after a Facebook page, describing itself as a digital creator and entertainment website, posted a video of an unnamed man advising Manila residents to prepare for a possible emergency situation.

“Recently, a post by the Facebook page ‘Maranao TV’ was monitored, depicting an unidentified person advising residents to make preparations for a possible emergency situation in Metro Manila,” the NCRPO said.

“We want to assure everyone that an in-depth validation was immediately conducted and based on latest intelligence report by various intelligence units, there is no information of any security threat that can cause security alarm in Metro Manila,” it added.

In the video, the man said Manila residents should stock up on food, medicines, and batteries because “something is coming up.”

The NCRPO said an investigation is ongoing to determine the identity of the person in the video as well as the facts and circumstances surrounding the Facebook post.

“We encourage everyone to remain calm, deliberate, and to be very discerning in what you see in social media,” the NCRPO said.

“Further,  immediately report to the nearest police station information of any suspicious persons and events for immediate and appropriate actions, as authorized under the Police Operational Procedures of the PNP,” it added.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
