MANILA – Malacañang has directed all government agencies to take part in the commemoration of the 127th anniversary of the Philippine Independence.
The directive contained in Memorandum Circular (MC) 77 inked by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Feb. 13 covers all government agencies and instrumentalities, including government-owned or -controlled corporations.
The commemorative events for the Philippine Independence will be held from May 28 to June 12.
All local government units and the private sector are encouraged to extend full support and cooperation to the conduct of programs and activities in relation to the Independence Day celebration.
MC 77 says the commemoration of the country’s independence is a celebration of “the freedom fought for by our forefathers, the future that they dreamt for the nation, and the history we aim to remember and honor.”
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) is the lead agency mandated to plan, organize and undertake the commemoration of select historical events, including the Philippine Independence Day.
Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, the country’s first president, proclaimed the country’s independence from Spanish colonial rule in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898.
MC 77, which was made public on Wednesday, takes effect immediately. (PNA)
