An assault rifle and two handguns were seized by the authorities from an apartment in Santa Ana, Manila, on Saturday, according to a ”24 Oras Weekend” report by Jhomer Apresto.
The search operation came after an intruder allegedly barged into the apartment and pointed a gun at the tenant on January 14.
The male tenant fled the apartment.
“From that point under circumstances, nag-file po tayo ng search warrant sa court upang makuha yung M16 rifle sa legal na pamamaraan,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Dionelle Brannon.
(From that point, under the circumstances, we filed an application for a search warrant in court to obtain the M16 rifle through legal means.)
A .40 caliber pistol, two .45 caliber pistols, and ammunition were also recovered, which will undergo ballistic examination.
“Para malaman kung ang mga baril na iyon ay nagamit sa iligal na pagpatay o sa pamamaril at isasama natin sa pagpa-file ng kaso,” said Brannon.
(To find out if those guns were used in the killing or shooting, which can be used as evidence in the filing of the case.)
Authorities believe that the male tenant has unresolved issues with the intruder or that he is also involved in gun-running activities and illegal drugs.
The police said that once the warrant is returned to the court, complaints will be filed against the tenant.
The report added that the investigation into the whereabouts of the tenant’s family—who, according to the apartment owner, he last saw in December 2024—is underway. A follow-up investigation into the intruder’s background is also ongoing. — Sherylin Untalan/VBL, GMA Integrated News
