Government agents have arrested a Vietnamese man for allegedly selling illegal drugs hidden in a plastic bag of rice.
According to John Consulta’s report on “24 Oras,” members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Organized and Transnational Crime Division (OTCD) nabbed the Vietnamese man after he gave a plastic bag to a motorcycle courier.
At first, the plastic seemed to contain only rice, but sachets of ketamine and ecstasy were found inside.
In a follow-up operation, authorities nabbed two Vietnamese women at a motel in Pasay.
The women were used to selling illegal drugs since they were waiting for customers in the area, NBI OTCD executive officer Mark Santiago said.
The arrested Vietnamese said they had been in the Philippines for some years.
Their usual customers are their countrymen or Chinese, who contact them through a messaging app or social media.
“We filed a violation of Sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165, Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, in relation to RA 10176 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012,” NBI agent on the case Ronaldo Pangan said.
The arrested Vietnamese have yet to make any comment.
