WVSU achieves milestones in 2024 Bar exam

THE West Visayas State University (WVSU) celebrated a remarkable year in 2024, recording significant achievements in its College of Law (COL), College of Nursing (CON), and College of Medicine (COM).

The Supreme Court announced on December 13, 2024, that 12 out of 13 exam-taking students from the pioneer batch of WVSU-COL’s “Batch Banaag” passed the exam.

This milestone secured the university’s position as the top-performing law school in the country in the category of schools with 11 to 50 examinees.

The national passing rate for the 2024 Bar Exam stood at 37.84 percent, with 3,962 out of 10,490 examinees passing the three-day examination held on September 1, 11, and 15.

The Supreme Court adjusted the passing rate to 74 percent from the usual 75 percent.

The WVSU-COL community celebrated the success of Batch Banaag, with many hailing the graduates as trailblazers who paved the way for future “Taga-West” lawyers.

In the November 2024 Philippine Nursing Licensure Examination (PNLE), WVSU’s CON Batch 2024, known as Batch Zephyr, continued the university’s tradition of excellence.

Four graduates placed in the top 10 of the examination results.

Ma. Irish Silvestre achieved an impressive rank 8, earning a score of 91 percent.

Robert Matthew Opong and Karen Joy Oscares both achieved a score of 90.80 percent, earning them a tie for rank 9. Richard Olano, Jr. secured rank 10 with a score of 90.60 percent.

For the fifth consecutive year, WVSU has emerged as the top-performing institution in the PNLE, achieving a 100 percent passing rate among all 108 first-time exam takers.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported a national passing rate of 84.99 percent, with 29,349 out of 34,534 examinees passing the November PNLE, held on November 9 and 10.

The WVSU-COM also excelled in the October 2024 Physicians Licensure Examination (PLE), ranking seventh among the nine top-performing schools nationwide with at least 100 examinees.

The PRC announced the results on October 18, 2024, showing that WVSU achieved an 87 percent passing rate, with 87 passers out of 100 examinees. Of these, 86 were first-time takers.

WVSU-COM ranked second among medical schools in the Visayas and first in Region 6 – Western Visayas.
